Michael Thomas Rowland is a researcher, videographer and sonic storyteller based in Rotterdam. His historical research encompasses Dutch Early Modern transatlantic slavery, the (ideological) roots contemporary corporate-state tyranny, racism and ecocide and music history. Rowland's methodology encompasses history, linguistics and a cross-section of theory.
In 2025 Rowland established the media project k.cast. This project seeks to connect academic knowledge production, fictional storytelling and art through the creation of democratised, accessible media content. K.cast primarily investigates music culture, history and technology through the combination of fictional storytelling, soundscapes and music. The platform is also a vehicle to document under appreciated parts of music history.

Zijn historisch onderzoek omvat de vroegmoderne Nederlandse transatlantische slavernij, de (ideologische) wortels van hedendaagse tyrannie door de corporatieve staat, racisme en ecocide, en muziekgeschiedenis. Rowlands methodologie omvat geschiedenis, taalkunde en een dwarsdoorsnede van theorieën.

Dit project streeft ernaar academische kennisproductie, fictieve verhalen en kunst met elkaar te verbinden door de creatie van gedemocratiseerde, toegankelijke mediacontent. K.cast onderzoekt voornamelijk muziekcultuur, -geschiedenis en -technologie door een combinatie van fictieve verhalen, soundscapes en muziek. Het platform dient tevens als middel om ondergewaardeerde aspecten van de muziekgeschiedenis te documenteren.
